Abstract

The control of shunt-wound DC motors remains a critical challenge in modern electromechanical systems, particularly in applications requiring high precision, efficiency, and robustness under varying operating conditions. This study presents a robust control framework that integrates DC–DC converters with a pole placement control strategy for enhanced performance of shunt-wound DC motors. The proposed approach combines classical control theory with optimization-based tuning techniques to ensure system stability, fast dynamic response, and improved disturbance rejection.
The research investigates the mathematical modeling of the motor–converter system, followed by the design of a state-space representation enabling precise pole assignment. To enhance controller adaptability, optimization mechanisms inspired by intelligent algorithms are incorporated, drawing conceptual parallels with particle swarm optimization methodologies (Abdul-Adheem, 2019). The framework is validated through analytical evaluation and simulation-based performance metrics, demonstrating improved transient and steady-state characteristics compared to conventional PID and nonlinear controllers.
The findings reveal that the integration of pole placement with DC–DC converter control significantly enhances system robustness, reduces overshoot, and ensures stability under parameter variations. The study contributes a scalable and computationally efficient solution for electric drives, particularly in industrial automation and electric vehicle applications.
