Abstract

The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources within microgrid environments introduces significant operational challenges due to intermittency, nonlinearity, and system uncertainties. Hybrid renewable energy systems integrating wind, solar photovoltaic (PV), diesel generators, and energy storage require advanced control strategies to ensure stability, efficiency, and reliability. This paper proposes an intelligent fuzzy logic-based control framework tailored for hybrid renewable energy microgrids. The study develops a comprehensive control architecture that incorporates adaptive decision-making mechanisms to manage energy flow, voltage regulation, and load balancing. The methodology integrates fuzzy inference systems with embedded control strategies suitable for hardware-oriented implementation, including FPGA-based and embedded systems design. A detailed literature synthesis highlights limitations of conventional control methods and establishes the need for intelligent control paradigms. The proposed framework is analytically evaluated, demonstrating improved robustness against system uncertainties and enhanced operational efficiency. Results indicate that fuzzy logic controllers outperform traditional controllers in dynamic conditions, particularly in hybrid configurations involving wind-diesel and PV-battery systems. The study concludes with insights into scalability, implementation challenges, and future research directions in intelligent microgrid control systems.
