Abstract

Synchronous generators are critical components in power systems, responsible for maintaining voltage stability, delivering active and reactive power, and ensuring system reliability. While traditional studies often assume balanced operation, real-world conditions frequently involve asymmetrical steady-state scenarios caused by unbalanced loads, single-phase faults, and uneven grid disturbances. These conditions result in voltage distortion, negative-sequence currents, torque oscillations, and potential system instability, which pose significant challenges for system operators and designers. This research presents a comprehensive modeling and evaluation framework for synchronous generator behavior under such asymmetrical steady-state operations using a virtual experimental environment. The framework integrates dq0 transformation-based analytical modeling with interactive virtual laboratory simulations to accurately capture the dynamic responses of generators under unbalanced conditions. The study applies systematic fault and load scenario testing, measuring deviations in voltage, current, and torque, while evaluating the generator’s performance against established theoretical and computational benchmarks (Birt et al., 1976; Boldea, 2006; Suryasen et al., 2014). Results demonstrate that unbalanced operating conditions induce significant electrical and mechanical deviations, emphasizing the limitations of conventional modeling approaches. The proposed virtual laboratory platform enables real-time monitoring, parameter manipulation, and predictive analysis, bridging the gap between theory and practical experimentation. The findings provide insights for system stability assessment, control strategy optimization, and educational applications, highlighting the necessity of advanced modeling and interactive simulations for contemporary power networks. By combining rigorous analytical methods with practical simulation tools, this study contributes to enhanced understanding of synchronous generator dynamics, operational resilience, and effective fault management strategies, establishing a foundation for future research in complex power system environments.
