Abstract

The rapid integration of renewable energy sources into electrical grids necessitates advanced simulation frameworks to optimize energy conversion efficiency and enhance system protection. This study proposes an integrated simulation framework for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) and wind hybrid systems, emphasizing energy conversion optimization and lightning strike protection. The framework leverages mathematical modeling of PV modules, wind turbines, and hybrid energy storage systems, combined with lightning-induced overvoltage analysis using FDTD and transient simulation techniques. Simulation results demonstrate the system’s robustness against partial shading, variable solar irradiance, and lightning-induced transients, highlighting significant improvements in energy efficiency and system reliability. The findings provide a comprehensive tool for designers and engineers to predict performance under operational and environmental stressors, facilitating informed decision-making for hybrid energy deployment (H. Alam et al., 2016; I. Hetita et al., 2022).
