Abstract

The rapid expansion of high-speed magnetic levitation (Maglev) railway systems has intensified the need for intelligent safety mechanisms capable of identifying foreign objects on railway tracks before they interfere with train operations. Due to the extremely high operating speeds of Maglev trains, even relatively small obstacles can compromise passenger safety, damage infrastructure, and interrupt transportation services. Conventional inspection methods relying on manual monitoring or traditional computer vision algorithms often fail to achieve the speed, robustness, and adaptability required for real-time deployment under diverse environmental conditions. Recent advances in deep learning-based object detection have demonstrated considerable improvements in detection accuracy and computational efficiency, making modern single-stage detectors particularly suitable for safety-critical transportation applications.
This research proposes an Enhanced YOLO11 Architecture specifically designed for real-time Maglev track foreign object detection. The proposed framework integrates optimized feature extraction, multi-scale feature fusion, adaptive attention mechanisms, lightweight inference strategies, and intelligent confidence refinement to improve detection accuracy while maintaining real-time processing capability. The architecture is intended to identify objects of varying sizes—including stones, metallic debris, vegetation, maintenance tools, and unexpected obstacles—under challenging environmental conditions such as fog, rain, shadows, and varying illumination.
The methodology adopts a modular deep learning framework consisting of data acquisition, image preprocessing, enhanced backbone optimization, feature aggregation, detection head optimization, confidence validation, and deployment optimization. The proposed architecture emphasizes computational efficiency, enabling deployment on edge computing platforms integrated with intelligent railway monitoring systems. Distributed processing concepts contribute to scalable inference pipelines suitable for modern transportation infrastructure (Sayyed, 2025). Furthermore, optimization principles inspired by intelligent workload allocation in hybrid cloud environments support efficient utilization of computational resources during large-scale deployment (Hebbar & Maheshkar, 2025). These architectural considerations enhance system scalability while preserving low-latency inference requirements.
Analytical evaluation indicates that the proposed architecture can significantly improve localization precision, reduce false detections, accelerate inference speed, and maintain robust detection performance across diverse environmental scenarios. The proposed framework also demonstrates improved adaptability for future integration with digital twin technologies and intelligent railway management platforms (Varanasi et al., 2026).
The research contributes a comprehensive deep learning architecture that combines accuracy, computational efficiency, scalability, and deployment flexibility for next-generation intelligent railway safety systems. The proposed framework provides a practical foundation for future automated Maglev inspection platforms capable of supporting reliable real-time foreign object detection under dynamic operational environments.
